Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Joseph Wiesner was a Partner of H-T Capital Markets. He previously headed up the Pittsburgh office for Commerce Capital Markets. He is also a past president of the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association. In August of 2001, he received the prestigious Markus Award from the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association for his dedication and service to the Association. 

Wiesner was appointed by Governor Ridge to the Local Government Advisory Committee and fulfilled his two term appointment. Prior to his current investment banking career, he served as executive director of the Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority, one of the largest authorities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

Wiesner also served as manager of the Municipal Authority of Robinson Township in Allegheny County, one of the most rapidly-growing townships in Pennsylvania. Wiesner spent 18 years with the Municipal Authority of the Township of Robinson, working his way through the ranks. His responsibilities in these positions included implementation and management of day-to-day operations, emergency response and financial plans, negotiation of labor contracts, insurance programs and capital improvement projects. 

Such projects included expansion of a water treatment plant, construction of a sewage treatment facility, purchase and renovation of an administration building, and extensions and replacement of water and sewer transmission mains. 

Wiesner’s term on the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association has included time as both assistant director and director. He also served on such committees as the advisory committee, membership committee, conference committee, and legislative committee. 

Wiesner has a true understanding of the needs of all governmental bodies based upon his experience as an employee and manager in the public sector, including working for, managing and presently serving as a Board member in authorities ranging in size from small to mid-size, to one of the largest in Pennsylvania.
